Dither Studio

Upload an image, or drop or paste one, and turn it into a halftone dot field to place on the board. Draw it as dots or pixels, dithered with Floyd–Steinberg, Bayer 4, Bayer 8, blue noise or a hard threshold, with circle or square dots. The pixel style can keep the image's own colours. Tune grid, cell and dot size, vignette, posterize, levels, gamma, floor, ceiling and softness, then pick ink and paper colours.

Dither Studio

Give any photo or graphic a halftone or pixel-art look. Upload an image, tune the dots or pixels in a live preview, and place the result on your Drawdy board as one image.

What it's for

  • Posters, covers and moodboards with a retro print or newspaper feel.
  • Pixel art and one-colour graphics made from any picture.
  • A matching set: your settings are remembered, so several images get the same look and a board feels like one piece.

How to use

  1. Click the Dither Studio button on the right of the board.
  2. Click the preview and pick an image, or drop or paste one into the panel.
  3. Adjust the look. The preview updates as you move each control.
  4. Click Place on board. The image lands in the middle of your view.

What you can change

  • Style: Dots for a halftone, or Pixels for whole cells. Pixels can use one ink colour or the image's own colours.
  • Dither: Floyd–Steinberg, Bayer 4, Bayer 8, Blue noise or Hard.
  • Dot shape: circle or square.
  • Polarity: dark subject or light subject, set for you from each new image.
  • Sliders for the grid, cell size, dot size, vignette, posterize, levels, gamma, floor, ceiling and softness.
  • Ink and Paper colours: a swatch or any colour you pick.
  • Reset takes everything back to the defaults.

Tips

  • The placed image is 480 units wide and up to 2048 px on its longest side, so it stays sharp on the board.
  • Upload another image at any time to start again with the same settings.

Privacy

  • Nothing loads from the network. Your image stays in the panel, every dot is drawn there, and only the finished picture goes onto the board.
  • Your settings are saved for next time.
