The editor at excalidraw.com is open source, opens with no account and no card, and its plan is advertised as free forever: the full editor, unlimited collaborators in end-to-end encrypted sessions, libraries, integrations with Notion and Obsidian, and export to PNG, SVG or a saved file.

So the real question is where your boards live. Free Excalidraw keeps one scene in your browser's storage, which the app itself warns can be cleared, so you keep work by saving files to your own disk. Boards saved on a server, synced and shared with permissions, are Excalidraw+, and every seat in the workspace is billed.

Before you pay
- Every seat is billed. Two workspaces with only you in them count as two seats, while people who only need one scene can join through a shareable link without a seat.
- Charges are non-refundable under Excalidraw's terms, and a credit card is the only way to pay. Excalidraw emails a reminder before the trial ends and before each renewal.
- Cancelling keeps your scenes on Excalidraw's servers but locks you out of the workspace until you subscribe again.

Can I get a refund on Excalidraw+?+
Not under Excalidraw's terms: all charges are non-refundable, and checkout says so. Excalidraw emails a reminder before the trial ends and before each renewal, so cancel from Workspace settings, then Manage Subscription, before that date.
What happens to my scenes if I cancel Excalidraw+?+
They stay on Excalidraw's servers unless you delete the workspace. Cancelling removes your access to the workspace, and subscribing again restores it.
Is there a free alternative with cloud boards?+
